Dr. Payal Sewmungal is a dedicated obstetrician and gynecologist, who embarked on her medical journey at the University of the Free State. There, she completed her undergraduate training, earning a Bachelor's of Medicine and Surgery. Her passion for improving women's health was ignited during her internship at the Pietermaritzburg Hospital Complex, where she discovered her inspiration to serve and care for the community around Montebello Missionary Hospital.

Driven by her commitment to providing patient-centered, comfortable, safe, and empathetic care in women's health, Dr. Sewmungal pursued further training at various health facilities in Durban. This dedication and expertise culminated in her achieving a Fellowship of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the College of Medicine of South Africa. Simultaneously, she earned a Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the University of Kwazulu Natal. Her research focused on the growing health burden of obesity, specifically studying patient characteristics and pregnancy outcomes across body mass index categories in a semi-urban setting in South Africa.

During her time as a specialist in the state sector, Dr. Sewmungal obtained Level 1 GESEA certification for laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. She also played an instrumental role in training and teaching students and registrars as an honorary lecturer at the University of Kwazulu Natal.

 

With her extensive qualifications, compassionate approach, and dedication to women's health, Dr. Payal Sewmungal is committed to providing exceptional care to her patients.
